Our group has noticed that fandom opens people’s second role as geeks which is often opposite to their professional roles. People seldom cross the two worlds. They tended to hide one from the other.

By making this documentary, we aim to discover how geeks generated their love for fandom and how they dealt with role-switching in their daily lives.

  • Interview + Drafting script

Preinterview was arranged online to collect character’s stories. It helped us extract possible narrative ideas from conversations and drafted the story arc.

  • Storyboard

To showcase the character’s double life in fandom and professional field, filming locations were decided to be London MCM Comic Con and Battersea Children Zoo.

  • Filming Day

Before the filming days, we double-checked devices and shot-to-take lists. We also made a crowd information board to aware visitors of our filming.

On the filming days, we following-shot the character, took empty shots, and recorded ambient sounds

  • Editing

This 360 film was edited in Adobe Premier. We designed a panoramic view of the character’s TikTok screens to guide users to look around. Spatial SFX was added here to enhance each video’s pop-up location.

💠 Critical Assessment

This film was weak in story structure. Since we originally planned to film two characters, we didn’t have enough shots to build up the final character’s story. We heavily used 2D materials to fill the gap. We should film more about the character’s daily routine to expand her professional life.
